AI Companion Cancellation Check: Prepare Before You Upgrade
The best time to understand cancellation is before payment. Confirm where the control lives, what happens to remaining access and how to prove the request was completed.
Locate the route without subscribing
Search the help center, terms and account screenshots for the cancellation path. A clear route might be account settings, the app store, a payment portal or support. The correct route depends on where the purchase is made. If the only instruction is “contact us,” verify that the contact route works.
Distinguish cancellation from deletion
Stopping renewal does not necessarily delete chats, generated media or the account. Deleting an app from a phone does not usually stop a web subscription. Treat renewal, account closure and data deletion as three separate tasks and confirm each one when needed.
Record the effective date
Check whether cancellation preserves paid access until the end of the term or removes it immediately. Also check whether unused credits survive. Save the confirmation page or email and note the last access date.
Escalate with a clean timeline
If cancellation fails, write a short timeline with the purchase date, attempted route, screenshots, support ticket and renewal date. Clear evidence is more useful than repeated emotional messages. Contact the payment provider only after following the published route unless an unauthorized charge requires immediate action.
Recheck after the request
Return to the billing page and confirm that renewal is off. Keep the confirmation until the next expected billing date has passed. If the service offers a retention discount, read whether accepting it restarts renewal.
Practice the exit path on paper
Before upgrading, write the exact sequence you expect to follow: open settings, choose billing, turn off renewal, receive confirmation, retain access until a stated date. Compare that sequence with the published instructions. If the purchase is processed by an app store or separate portal, include that handoff. Add the support route you would use if the control is missing. This rehearsal exposes vague steps while there is still no urgent renewal. It also helps distinguish an account button labeled delete from the separate action that stops payment. After a real cancellation, keep the confirmation until the next billing date passes. A complete exit path has both an action and proof that it took effect.
