AI Companion Billing Check: Review the Checkout Before Subscribing
The monthly headline is only one part of the cost. A careful checkout review separates the recurring plan, consumable credits, taxes, foreign-exchange fees and features that require additional purchases.
Read the final checkout screen
Do not rely on a price shown on a comparison page or banner. At the final step, record the amount, currency, billing interval, trial length if any, renewal date and whether cancellation changes access immediately. If any item appears only after a card is entered, back out and decide whether the missing clarity is acceptable.
Separate access from usage
Some services combine a recurring plan with credits for images, voice or video. Write down what the plan unlocks and what still consumes a balance. A low monthly amount can become expensive when the feature you want most uses separate credits. If usage units are not explained, mark the answer unknown rather than estimating.
Check the receipt and statement name
The product brand may differ from the merchant name. Look for a billing descriptor or receipt example in the help pages. Save the confirmation email and transaction reference. A recognizable descriptor makes later support or dispute conversations much easier.
Know the renewal clock
Record the exact renewal date and create your own reminder several days earlier. Check whether the service uses local time or another time zone and whether a trial renews automatically. Do not rely on memory or an in-app notification that may never arrive.
Keep a checkout evidence pack
Save the final price screen, plan description, cancellation wording and confirmation email. This is not about expecting a problem. It is a simple way to compare what was promised with what appears on the receipt and account page.
Run a realistic cost scenario
Choose the one activity you expect to use most, such as long chat sessions or generated images. From the current checkout and help pages, note the recurring amount, included usage and the cost of any extra units. Then model one quiet month and one heavy month without assuming a discount will continue. Add taxes or foreign-exchange fees shown by your payment provider. This is not a prediction; it is a boundary check. If the heavy month exceeds what you would comfortably spend on entertainment, set a lower personal cap or choose a service with clearer limits. Save the dated figures because plans can change. A comparison is only fair when every option uses the same usage scenario and currency.
