“Try free” can describe several very different experiences. Identify whether you are opening a limited account, receiving one-time credits, previewing locked features or starting a timed plan that later charges.
Name the type of free access
A genuinely free account may continue with limits and no payment method. Welcome credits usually expire after use. A preview can show characters without allowing meaningful chat. A timed trial may require payment details and renew. Put the offer into one of these categories before you create an account.
Check what the free level actually tests
Decide what you need to evaluate: conversation quality, memory, character creation, image output, voice or video. If the free level excludes your main use case, it cannot answer whether the paid plan is worthwhile. Do not upgrade merely because the preview was too limited to judge.
Find the renewal trigger
If a card is required, locate the renewal amount, date and cancellation route before starting. Take a screenshot. A countdown timer does not replace clear terms. If the renewal information is hidden or contradictory, close the checkout and use a no-card option instead.
Test support while the stakes are low
Ask one clear question about the free limit or cancellation. A useful response before payment is positive evidence. No response does not prove the service is unsafe, but it tells you how difficult a billing question may be later.

Note the start time, any starting balance and the moment a payment wall appears. If a card is required, record the renewal deadline before the first chat. Stop when the three questions are answered; do not burn through credits just because they expire. At the end, separate product fit from payment clarity. You may enjoy the experience while still deciding that renewal or cancellation evidence is too weak. Equally, a clear checkout does not make a poor conversation worth buying.
